Lost Illusion is the undisclosed title of every novel. Andre Maurois comments that within each novel is the sense of lost dreams and unattainable goals. Irony expresses how the meaning of a particular event can be shown with an opposite effect. Furthermore, it also exposes the ironic events that can occur within a novel in connection with the title. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald produced much dispute on why he chose that as the title to his novel. The Great Gatsby demonstrates the deception of how the main character Jay Gatsby showed his greatness by attempting to achieve his goal of Daisy, but failed miserably in his pursuit of recreating the past and bringing about his own death. Gatsbys wealth was acquired through the illegal sale of liquor after Daisy wouldnt accept him for being poor at that time. Furthermore, he elected an illegal and immoral path in his life. Also, The old-money people such as Tom could evidently see through Gatsbys sentiments and his appearance, leading to the decision of naming him bogus, not great. Ultimately, Gatsby can only be considered ironically great for the dishonorable dream of Daisy. In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald indicates how greatness could be achieved through wealth and power, but how it could fail miserably and bring about someones death. The only great or heroic act that Gatsby accomplished was taking blame for Myrtles murder. After Fitzgerald had given different names to his novel such as The High-Bouncing Lover and Among the Ash-Heaps and Millionaires, he decided to name it The Great Gatsby because it gives the sense of irony and paradox to the novel. The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively. Bob Marley comments that a man can only prove his greatness through his positive actions and his moral values, not his material wealth, which is where Gatsby failed in attempting to achieve his goal of Daisy.

If the trend continues beyond this point the problem will escalate for many years to come impacting heavily on the economic situation of these countries. The governments are concerned with this trend and they are up and planning on the measures to be taken to counter this negative development. The government can not afford to sit on the fence as it watches the population decline. This can have serious impact than imagined. It can threat the very existence of a nation. In the next ten or more years to come it is expected that the European population level will be more than seventy million or roughly ten percent below its current level. The governments are busy trying to counter this negative trend as it may pose serious problems if it is not tackled early and in an effective manner. Births rate have fallen to levels where they can not be replaced and on the other hand the continent median age has climbed steadly. This poses a complex problem which need to be approached in a sober manner as it can result to every disastrous situation. A decline in the working population mean that the government can only promote immigration to counter a situation where the labor supplies dwindle ,this poses a serious problem as this population will only be attracted from the developing nations where there are population crises and the level of skills is often. To stop the decline the government has to come up with a workable solution which will solve this problem once and for all and help avert a situation where economic slow down is experienced further complicating the matters. The fear of having many children or in some cases- no children at all- among the childbearing population in the western nations and Europe in general poses a great danger for this continent. If the current fertility levels persisted and immigration ceased altogether the European population would fall way below six hundred million by the turn of the century. What would this mean in a continent that is expected to steer the global economy to the next level in the century. It shatter the dreams of a powerful Europe in the world map while at the same time putting the continent at a disadvantaged position since the population in some the world regions is increasing at a higher rate. Therefore since this is a problem that will have far reaching effects for some years to come the government s in the respective countries need to move fast and come up with comprehensive policies which will help in solving this problem. Statement of the Problem This study sought to describe and analyse the performance of Del Hilado Elementary School (DES) grade III pupils in Science on the National Achievement Test (NAT) for the SY 2010 – 2011. Furthermore, this study aims to trace up the history of performance of Del Hilado Elementary School (DHES) grade III pupils in National Achievement Test (NAT) three years backward and to determine the competency that mostly grade III pupils find hard to master. Finally, design an intervention program that focuses the grade III pupils to get grips the competency. Specifically, the study answered the following questions: 1. What is the relationship of teaching strategies to the performance of Del Hilado Elementary School Grade III pupils on the NAT? 2. What is the relationship between the School’s Post-test in Grade III in Science as measured by the Nat? 3. How is Science taught in school? Scope and Delimitation This study is primarily concern with the performance of Del Hilado Elementary School (DHES) grade III pupils in Science of the National Achievement Test. The overwhelming majority of beginning teachers routinely express concerns about classroom control and frequently experience discipline problems during their initial months and year in the classroom (Rogan, Borich, amp; Taylor, 1992).
